Julie: 너의 스테이크에 문제가 있니?

Julie: Is there a problem with your steak.

 

Andrew: 응 있어. 나는 고기 속이 빨간걸 좋아해서 스테이크를 레어로 주문했거든. 그런데 그 대신 웰던 스테이크가 나왔어. 난 오랫동안 스테이크를 구운 걸 싫어해. 그래서 속이 갈색이고 고기 맛이 잘 안나네.

Andrew: Yes, there is. I ordered a rare steak because I like it when the meat is red inside. But they have brought me well done steak instead. I don’t like it when they cook it for a long time, so it’s brown inside and the meat doesn’t have a lot of taste.

 

Julie: 종업원에게 주방으로 다시 돌려보내달라고 요청해. 그러면 너에게 다른 스테이크를 줄거야. 내가 저기 있는 종업을 부를게.

Julie: You should ask the waiter to send it back to the kitchen. So, they can give you another steak. I’ll call the waiter over there.

음식을 되돌려 보내는 상황에서는 bring it back보다는 send it back

 

Sally: 나도 내 메인 코스에 문제가 있어. 로스트 치킨은 맛있는데, 당근을 너무 조리했어. 그래서 너무 물렁거리고 맛이 나지 않아. 그런데 삶은 감자도 거의 안 익었어. 너무 딱딱해. 감자는 요리를 안 한 것 같아.

Andrew: I have a problem with my main course as well. The roast chicken is good, but they have overcooked the carrots. So, they are too soft and they don’t have any taste at all. But, the boiled potatoes are almost raw. It’s very hard. They haven’t cooked potatoes at all.

 

Julie: 내가 저기 있는 종업원을 부를게. 저기요!

Julie: I will call the waiter over there. Excuse me!

 

Waiter: 네, 손님. 무엇을 도와드릴까요?

Waiter: Yes, sir. How can I help you?

 

Julie: 제 친구 중 한 명이 레어 스테이크를 주문했는데 웰던 스테이크를 가져다 주었습니다. 제 다른 친구의 당근은 너무 조리되었고 감자는 너무 안익었구요. 주방으로 다시 돌려보내서 다시 가져다 줄 수 있나요

Julie: One of my friends ordered a rare steak and you’ve brought him a well-done steak. My other friend’s carrots are overcooked and her potatoes are raw. Can you send them back to the kitchen to be replaced please?

 

Waiter: 스테이크 문제에 사과드리겠습니다. 제가 바로 교체해드리겠습니다. 당근과 감자 둘 다 그래 보이는군요. 그런데 제가 해드릴 수 있는 부분은 없습니다.

Waiter: I apologize for the steak. I will replace it straight away. Both carrots and potatoes are supposed to be like that. I’m afraid that there is nothing I can do.

**Be supposed to be like that 잘은 모르지만 그렇게 보이긴 하는군요. 정도의 느낌으로 사용

 

Julie: 음, 그렇다면, 저는 매니저와 이야기하고 싶군요.

Julie: Well, in that case, I’d like to speak to the manager, please.

 

Waiter: 제가 가서 모셔오겠습니다.

Waiter: I will go and get him for you.

 

Manager: 무엇이 문제입니까?

Manager: What seems to be the problem?

 

Julie: 종업원이 제 친구의 음식을 돌려보내는 것을 거절하고 있습니다. 당근이 너무 익었고 감자는 거의 날 것입니다. 우리는 종업원에게 받은 서비스에 만족하지 않습니다. 그는 오늘 밤 저희 음식에 몇 가지 실수를 했고 우리에게 매우 거만했습니다.

Julie: The waiter is refusing to send back my friend’s dish. The carrots are overcooked and potatoes are almost raw. We’re not happy with the service we have received from the waiter. He has made several mistakes with our food tonight and he has been arrogant towards us.

 

Manager: 제 사과를 받아주십시오. 제가 친구분의 음식을 주방으로 돌려보내서 다시 해드리겠습니다. 그리고 로스트 치킨 값은 받지 않겠습니다. 그러니 지불하지 않으셔도 됩니다. 사과의 의미로 여러분께서 겪으신 문제에 대해 저희 측에서 무료로 레드 와인 한 병을 드리겠습니다.

Manager: Please accept my apologies. I will send your friend’s dish back to the kitchen and get it replaced. We will not charge you for the roast chicken. So, you don’t have to pay for it. To say sorry, we will give you a bottle of red wine on the house for all the problems you have experienced.

 

Julie: 무료 와인 한 병이라니! 정말 감사합니다.

Julie: A free bottle of wine! Thank you so much!

 

40 minutes later, after receiving the bill/check from the waiter

 

Julie: 요금이 이상하게 높네.

Julie: The bill seems very high.

 

Andrew: 내가 한 번 볼게. 내 생각엔 너무 과다 청구 된 것 같아. 청구서에 로스트 치킨 값이 들어갔어. 또한 우리가 주문하지도 않은 로스트 오리도 청구되었네. 종업원에게 한 마디 해야겠다. 저기요!

Andrew: Let me have a look. I think they have overcharged us. They have included the roast chicken on the bill. Also, they are charging us for a roast duck which we didn’t order. I will have a word with the waiter. Excuse me!

 

Waiter: 네?

Waiter: Yes?

 

Andrew: 계산청구서에 실수가 있는 것 같습니다. 계산서에 로스트 오리가 있는데, 그건 우리가 먹지 않은 거에요. 아내의 로스트 치킨이 있는데, 그건 당신의 매니저가 청구하지 않는다고 한거구요.

Andrew: There seem to be a mistake with the bill. The bill has a roast duck on it, which we didn’t have. It has my wife’s roast chicken on it, which your manager said(that) we wouldn’t be charged for.

 

Waiter: 정말 죄송합니다. 제대로 수정된 청구서를 지금 가져다 드리겠습니다.

Waiter: I’m terribly sorry. I will bring you the correct bill now.

 

5 minutes later, having paid and about to leave

 

Andrew: 돈을 냈으니까 이제 여기서 나가자. 완전 최악이었어.

Andrew: Let’s leave here now since we have paid the bill. It’s been a disaster.

 

Julie: 뭔가 잘못된 것 같아. 내 생각엔 그들이 나에게 거스름돈을 덜 줬어. 식사가 140달러여서 내가 200달러를 냈어. 그런데 나는 잔돈으로 30달러만 받았어.

Julie: That doesn’t seem right. I think they have short-changed me. The meal cost is 140 dollars and I gave them 200 dollars. But, I’ve only got 30 dollars back in change.

Andrew: 그들이 너에게 잔돈을 덜 줬네. 넌 잔돈으로 60달러를 받아야 해. 그 종업원 다시 부르자.

Andrew: They have short-changed you. You should have gotten 60 dollars back in change. You should call the waiter over again.

 

Julie: 그래야겠다.

Julie: I will.
