Dialogue

 

Waiter: 안녕하세요, 무엇을 도와드릴까요?
Waiter: Welcome. How can I help you?

 

Julie: 좋은 저녁입니다. 저는 Smith라는 이름으로 9시에 예약을 했습니다.
Julie: Good evening. I have/make a reservation for 9p.m. in the name of Smith.

 

Waiter: 4분 예약하셨네요, 그렇죠? 안타깝지만 아직 테이블이 준비되지 않았습니다.

            바에서 기다리시면, 준비가 될 때 부르겠습니다.

Waiter: A table for four, isn’t it? I’m afraid that the table isn’t available yet.

             If you’d like to wait at the bar, we’ll call you over when it’s ready.

 

(30 minutes later)

 

Julie: 저기요, 저희는 30분째 테이블을 기다리고 있습니다. 더 오래 걸리나요?

Julie: Excuse me, we’ve been waiting for 30minutes for our table. Will it be much longer?

 

Waiter: 늦어져서 죄송합니다. 저희가 오늘 밤 매우 바쁘네요. 제가 가서 확인하겠습니다.

Waiter: I apologize for the delay. We’re very busy tonight. I will go and check.

 

(2 minutes later)

 

Waiter: 손님 테이블이 지금 준비되었습니다.  저화 함께 가시면 제가 테이블로 안내해 드리겠습니다.

Waiter: Your table is ready now. If you come with me, I will show you to your table.

 

(5 minutes later)

 

Andrew: 웬일이니, 우리 옆 테이블 사람들 너무 소리친다. 너무 시끄럽다. 

Andrew: (Oh) my god, the people at the table next to ours are shouting. I can’t hear myself think.

 

Julie: 저 사람들 너무 큰소리로 이야기하네. 내가 처리할게. 

          우리가 테이블을 옮길 수 있는지 종업원에게 물어볼게. 실례합니다, 테이블 옮길 수 있나요?

Julie: They’re talking very loud. I’ll take care of it.(=figure it out, handle). 

           I will speak to the waiter and see if we can move our table. Excuse me, would it be possible to change our table?

See if는 ‘보다’가 아니라 확인하다

 

 

Waiter: 테이블에 문제가 있습니까? 

Waiter: Is there a problem with the table?

Do you have any problem?처럼 사람을 지칭하면서 물어보면 너무 직설적일 수 있으니 우회해서 물어볼 것, “테이블에 문제 있니?”같이..

 

Julie: 테이블에는 문제가 없는데, 우리 옆 테이블이 너무 시끄럽게 이야기합니다.

Julie: Not with the table. But, the table next to us is speaking loudly

 

Waiter: 제가 조용히 해달라고 요청하겠으니, 식사 즐겁게 해주세요.

Waiter: I’ll ask them to be quiet (down), so you can enjoy your meal.

Talking 보다는 Speaking loudly Quieten down으로 쓰기도 함.

 

 

(20 minutes later, the waiter is serving)

 

Andrew: 저기요, 저는 훈제 연어를 주문하지 않았습니다.

Andrew: Excuse me, I didn’t order smoked salmon.

 

Waiter: 제가 여기에 훈제 연어라고 적어두었습니다.

Waiter: I have smoked salmon written down here.

 

Andrew: 죄송하지만, 그쪽이 실수하셨습니다. 저는 제 식전음식으로 토마토 바질 스프를 요청했었습니다.

Andrew: I’m afraid, you’re mistaken. I asked for the tomato and basil soup for my starter.

 

Waiter: 정말 죄송합니다. 제가 즉시 바꿔드리겠습니다.

Waiter: I’m terribly sorry. I’ll replace(change) it right away. (straight away)

 

Peter: 실례합니다, 제 식전음식도 바꿀 수 있나요?

Peter: Excuse me, would it be possible to change my starter, too?

 

Waiter: 손님의 새우 샐러드에 무슨 문제라도 있습니까?

Waiter: Is there anything wrong with your shrimp(Prawn) salad?

의문문일 때는 something이 아닌 anything으로 사용!

 

Peter: 아니요, 없습니다. 저는 새우 샐러드가 이럴 줄 몰랐거든요.

Peter: No. there isn’t. I wasn’t expecting the prawn salad to look like this.

 

Waiter: 문제 없습니다. 대신 무엇으로 드시겠습니까?

Waiter: No problem. What would you like, instead?

 

Peter: 문제가 되지 않는다면, 시저 샐러드 먹을 수 있을까요?

Peter: If it’s no trouble, can I have a caesar salad?

 

Waiter: 죄송하지만 시저 샐러드는 다 떨어졌습니다. 

             오늘 밤은 전혀 남아있지 않습니다. 토마토 바질 스프를 추천드려도 될까요? 맛이 아주 좋습니다.

Waiter: I’m afraid that we are sold out of the Caesar salad. 

We don’t have any more tonight. May I recommend the tomato and basil soup? It’s very good.

 

Peter: 그럼 그걸로 하겠습니다. 감사합니다.

Peter: I’ll have that then. Thank you.

 

Waiter: 지금 스프를 가져다 드리겠습니다.

Waiter: I will bring the soup now.
